Examinations at King George British International School

Assessment is an essential part of the learning journey at King George. We believe in preparing students to face academic challenges with confidence, clarity, and competence through a combination of continuous assessment and internationally recognised examinations.

Internal Assessments

Throughout the academic year, all students from Primary to Sixth Form participate in school-wide assessments that inform progress and guide personalised support.

Internal Exams Include:

  • Termly tests and cumulative reviews
  • Standardised assessments in core subjects
  • Diagnostic assessments for learning support
  • Mock exams in IGCSE and A-Level years (January–March)
  • Performance-based evaluations in subjects such as Art, Drama, and Music

These assessments allow teachers to track progress, set academic targets, and provide meaningful feedback to students and parents.

IGCSE Examinations (Years 10–11)

Students follow the Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE curricula, culminating in external examinations at the end of Year 11. These qualifications are recognised worldwide and prepare students for A-Level or equivalent post-16 study.

IGCSE Exam Features:

  • Taken in May–June (with retakes in October–November if needed)
  • Subjects include English, Mathematics, Sciences, Business, Humanities, Languages, ICT, and Arts
  • Assessment types: written exams, coursework, practicals, and oral exams

A-Level Examinations (Years 12–13)

Our Sixth Form students sit AS and A-Level exams, typically over two years. These qualifications are accepted by top universities globally and develop advanced subject mastery and critical thinking.

A-Level Exam Structure:

  • AS-Level exams at the end of Year 12 (optional)
  • Full A-Level certification at the end of Year 13
  • Exam sessions take place in May–June, with options for resits in October–November
  • Subjects include sciences, mathematics, economics, languages, literature, and social sciences

Exam Preparation Support

At King George, we ensure every student is equipped for exam success through:
  • Study skills coaching and time management workshops
  • Personalised revision plans based on mock results
  • Access to past papers, examiners’ reports, and mark schemes
  • One-on-one academic mentoring and drop-in subject clinics
  • Emotional wellbeing and stress management sessions

Certification & Results

  • Official exam certificates are issued directly by Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel
  • Results are shared with families and used to guide university applications or next academic steps
  • High-achieving students are recognised through awards and honours
